Since ming and I are starting to have a more steady income (我終於長大了), we have decided to try to put our money into good use, instead of buying useless junk to fill up this big house.  With ming's parents help, we are in the process of looking for a property investment.  We thought that the housing market is in a slump right now, condos should be a good place to invest since we do not have lots of money to spare. Boy were we wrong.... The condos are still on a rise, and we already tried to put in two offers that both got shut down.  Now we have to keep looking... I hate house hunting, it's time consuming and tiring....  wish us luck.

Bitch and good man

I am telling two stories here.
First: Today after my train ride, I got into ming's 4Runner at the parking lot, this fat bitch who parked beside me got into her car after me.  Then I heard a bump... first I was like, what was that, I know it came from the passenger side's door, so I know it was her who bumped her door into my door.  I looked at her, she had no remorse whatsoever, so i mouthed to her "you hit my car!" And guess what she did, she gave me the look and mouthed something like "So what? what's the big deal!" and drove away!!! What a BITCH! It wasn't like I was gonna sue her or anything, at least apologize and say oh, it didn't leave a mark (I went down to take a look, there was a scratch but I think it is removable).  She was so fat that she couldn't get into the car and needed a bigger space to get into her car.  Therefore she should have 1. not drive, walk home or 2. wait till I left and get into her car or 3. be more careful!!! Why are there such insensitive, impolite people in this world?! I memorized her orange ?mazda license plate number just in case BEHM556- don't let me see you at the station another day, I will definitely kick your fat ass.

Second, the good man story: Our garbage pick up professionals are very good people.  They have on several occasions helped us a lot.  They answer our (more like chatty ming's) questions, and they would always (well, most of them are good) stack our recycling bins and green bin together afterwards.  This morning it was a nasty scene at the front lawn as I was leaving the house for work.  The raccoons had gotten the green bin; they pushed it down and managed to unlock the green bin.  They digged into the food waste and made a nasty gross crime scene.  When I got home, (while still being so mad about that fat BITCH) I was thinking: now I have to go home to clean up the mess, but surprisingly the spot where the mess was had been cleaned up! That means the garbage man picked up the broken bag with all the food leaking out!  I am so grateful.  Perhaps I should write the waste management people a nice letter telling them what a good job they've done.

I am browsing through the A&F website and I notice something really bizarre.
What's the use of a coat that has a hoodie, but sleeveless?
Fashion, fashion... something I will never get.

So I am sick...
What's been happening in my life? Nothing worth blogging about.
Went to a lunch date with the girls.
Played a little bit with Emma at her house.
Been spending a lot of money on clothes.
Oh yeah, I am now a permanent part time paediatric dermatology nurse.
I am liking the part time part, but not the permanent part, coz that's almost like a pay cut for me.
Anyways, still missing home and family....

SF trip

Just came back from SanFran.   A nice city to revisit, I mostly spent my days in downtown area. The city was crowed though, with 3 conferences going on at the same time, the dermatology nurses association convention, the american academy of dermatology conference, and the pharmaceutical companies convention.    A taxi driver informed us that his business is only going well during this week, otherwise he doesn't think his company is going to survive by the end of this year.  He said the economy is really affecting the city, coz it is a city based on tourism.  Ahy.... I could feel the pressure of the recession as well.  Things are in general more expensive, compare to before, compare to Canada.

I ate this cream puff at a westfield mall by myself.  I finished in less than 5 min.  It was good!

Of course a US trip would not be complete without a drink from Jamba Juice.  Didn't see any pinkberry though.

Heard the inspirational speech by Greg Mortenson.  He is a nurse, now a famous writer.  The author of Three Cups of Tea.  I may read it in the future. :)

I've uploaded some more photos in my MSN page. Don't feel like using facebook anymore.

男人啊平常不喜歡看醫生,可是生起病來又很嚴重。
發燒到熱水壺裡沒水還把它插插頭,燒到水壺裡面都分解了。。。 became ashes!!
好吧現在沒熱水暍了.
今天早上聽到鳥叫聲,心想是不是春天要到了?
還是我太晚起床了?
結果今天超冷的。。。
還好我開車,呵呵。
想吃水餃。。。

A quick update

You mean you don't enjoy seeing jay every time you come onto my blog, my fellow YaYa fairy tale readers?  Coz I do.... Hahaha... So how do i sum up what's happened in the past few weeks?  Basically I was working, but did manage to have a few days off in between the holidays.  We had a x'mas dinner over at our place.  Ming baked a turkey (with my assistance) and it turned out perfect.  It tasted very good too.  Everyone brought a dish, and everyone's dish was so good as well that we finished all the food!!!

We did gift exchange at the end with stealing involved.  It was a fun night.
Then we went to Ottawa.  The night we got to Ottawa, there was freezing rain.  Holy, it was so difficult to walk around town, rainy and icy, wet and cold... not so fun.  But the dinner was good, we went to this local fish market restaurant, the lobster was 1/2 price.  I don't think i've ever had such big lobster all to myself.  Well, of course i shared it with  ming.

I worked 3 days in a row on the ward during the new years.  I had the weekend off before I went back to work today.
In between all these, i did a lot of shopping that put a big dent on my bank account.  Ouch~ I cannot look at the damage of my credit card... I need my pay cheque right now.

Gosh I love Jay

The concert was good.  90% good i would say, not perfect, coz he didn't sing the songs that i like the most.  But Jay's concert was definitely a lot better than David Tao's.  Well, David Tao sang all the classic popular songs of his, which was great, but he didn't do any of the fancy stuff that Jay did, like having customs, having special guests appearance, or background movie clips.
I couldn't believe that the concert was sold out!!!  lots of a-6 though.... anyways, it was an awesome experience.

Life is hectic, but Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Started a new job, finished another job yesterday; life is insanely busy.
I am now an official GO transit/TTC commuter.  Will be taking the public transit almost everyday now.  Absolutely hate it.  But I guess it's better than waking up at 5:30 (even though I wake up at 6:00 now, not much difference), and driving home in rush hour traffic.
I hate the feeling of not knowing what to do.  That's what happens when one starts a new job.  It was a big step for me to change; change is hard.  It's hard when I really liked my previous job (except the hours).  This new job could be temporarily, it could be long-term.  Who knows.  Nevertheless, I am learning something new; like what daddy said "it's good, it's a learning new experience."  You are right, daddy.  Happy Birthday!!  Miss ya.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE BEST DAD IN THE WORLD!!!
My Daddy, Dr. Su.

I miss you guys so much...

Why do emails always arrive after I leave my computer?

Sunday, November 23, 2008

Finally finished a crazy 3 month stretch of work.  I have learned that being a teacher is hard.  Perhaps I do not know a lot about adult education.  But i really enjoyed this experience.  I was fortunate to have a great bunch of students; they were dedicated and very hard working.  The 11 weeks flew by so quickly.  I don't know if i'll get the chance to do it again, but i wouldn't mind.
Another thing i learned was that my body is not built for full time work.  It really takes a lot out of me.  During the past 3 months, i felt like the me when i first started working, always tired, never feel rested.  On Saturday, i slept for 12 hours, trying to make up the sleep that i missed.  So right now i'm just going to chill.  No more work (also means no more $$).  What am i doing with my life?  The question surfaced again.

每日一complaint

It is disheartening when you used to like someone, but later found out some things about that person, and totally changed your view towards that person.

If someone applies for a position that is supposed to be a supportive towards your colleagues, then why doesn't that person support?

Sometimes people get in the mode of thinking you are now the boss and feeling all high and mighty, and forget about your own place.  I hate hypocrites.... Absolutely hate it.

Stephanie is asking "what's the meaning of life?"
I often wonder the same too.
What is the purpose of living?  What are we working so hard for?

Last night I dreamed that Jay was my boyfriend (oops, ming's gonna kill me), but he cheated on me, and I was so sad...  I was telling a friend that what's the point of staying with one guy who has a history of cheating, and repeats it again?  Hahaha... Men are bad animals on this planet.

亂講一通。

自從家裡裝了衛星, 我以經看了好幾部電影。 發現其實我還滿愛看電影的。 但我只喜歡在家裡看, 不喜歡去電影院。
昨天看了Sex and the City Movie, surprisingly 還滿感人的。。。
之前還看了P.S. I Love You, 覺得那是近幾年來最感人的電影。 強力推薦。:)

Been busy at work lately as well.  I now realize the difficulty of ming's job.  Being a teacher is not easy.  Having patience is a must... Whether i have enough patience is yet to be determined.  But i really enjoy the challenges and see how the students are improving every day (well, at least most of them are).

Maybe because i've been working more, i'm always tired, sleep for a long time now.  Can't wait till X'mas now.  But i don't like x'mas, coz it makes me think about family and how i'm not around them.  So maybe i don't want x'mas to come.  X'mas also mean the end of a year, so i hate that feeling too.  That means another year has passed and i've still not accomplished anything.... Also means i'm getting old.  Boo x'mas, booo.....

沒人性~

Don't eat anything that's "Made in China"!!!  As simple as that....
If China does not care about their own citizens (including the vulnerable children and infants), it is their problem.  We as customers knowing how horribly China "inspects" their food products, should not be stupid and go buy things that are made in China.  Sure, their things may be cheaper, and why is that? Coz they add poisonous stuff in their food to drive the cost down... 不要逞一時之快, thinking you can save money now.  We will all end up paying more for it in the future.  I just cannot believe that the Chinese people are doing it again... Last time it was the animals (remember last time pet food in N. America killed a number of animals here) and this time it's the babies; and it is the same stupid thing that they used to put in pet food and infant formula.  How could they not have learned from it?
If Taiwan ever joins China as a country, Taiwanese people will suffer from the same issues that the Chinese people are facing now.... By that time, I will not buy anything that is made in Taiwan either, coz I won't want my future children to get sick....
Hurting little babies just makes me so mad....

Went to do hot yoga last night.  The purpose of doing exercise is to get fit and healthy.  However, after I got home, it was already very late, I cooked dinner, and I hate a big bowel of dinner.  And because I ate so late, i went to bed late and could not fall asleep coz i was too full.... 真是反效果.

So Jay is coming to Toronto.  I am definitely going.  Can't wait!!!

Went to see Jamie and Emma over the weekend.  Emma is a little yellow... keep drinking oh, Emma.  Jamie and Emma 加油.

It's a Virgo...Again!

Congratulations to my good friend Jamie.  Jamie and Vincent had their baby on September 8th at 1:55am.  Emma is very very very cute and healthy.  I am so happy for them.

So sad....

Baby News- it's a Virgo!

So our good friend Lance and Nica had their baby.  Aiden is his name.
I am so proud of them, becoming young and loving parents.
Aiden is healthy, gorgeous, and just perfect.
Nica is strong and looks so calm.
Whereas Lance is kinda clueless (especially with the new perm), but very supportive towards his wife and very caring towards Aiden.
Congratulations to them both!!!!
I can't wait to meet Mr. Aiden Wei

... continued from takko's comment....

I've been so busy with work and life this past few months, i've lost touch with blogging and facebook!  I used to be the loyal fan of people's blog and facebook that i would visit those sites more than twice a day!!!  Damn i miss those days- just sits in front of the computer and check out who's updated what.  Where have those days gone?!  And because i've lost contact with blogging and facebook, i don't even think about things that are worth blogging.  I used to think "oh, i can write an entry on this, another entry on that..." Well, not anymore!

If I have to think about what i want to write these days, it would be all the BS that i get from work.  For example, those snobbish, arrogant, disrespectful, useless doctors, or those useless, selfish, ass-kissing charge nurses.  This is what my mind has been filled with.  Of course there are also many many sad stories that i would rather just forget, or else i would not be able to work where i work now...
And if i have to think about what fun i've had, it would be all the dinner, drinking, and poker parties that we've had.  I have discovered why alcohol can make one person high, and I now can drink one glass of wine without getting a headache.

So that's what's been happening with my life.  If ming were to blog about his past few months, it would probably be about the same as this, except he also did a lot of moving furnitures around in the house and that's all.  What a waste of summer, hahaha...
今天起來上班前有早餐吃(蛋餅歐),感覺真好。 一整天雖然只吃一餐早餐,但就很有精神。我說過當一個老公會早上起來煮早餐給老婆吃就代表他是愛她的  (or he has done something wrong, hahaha...)。

if you have time, go see the photos from our trip, Amsterdam-Brussels-London.

Friday, August 01, 2008

I heart europe~

Just got back from our trip to Amsterdam-Brussels-London.  What a great experience!  Amsterdam was such an interesting city, and I would go back again if I get the chance.  London was more like a revisit, since I was there about 6 years ago.  It is just awesome to see any cities in Europe.  They are so full of history and culture everywhere, something that N. America does not have.  The Dutch are such a relaxed population, they stroll when they walk, and they are always enjoying life.  London has some really handsome men.  I just love their subway system.  Almost wanted to buy a poster of their "underground tube" system.  The Europeans are very environmentally conscious, they do not have AC everywhere.  The days when we were there, it was so hot and what do N. Americans do when it gets hot?  Go hide in the malls or office buildings.  Well, that won't work in Europe, coz many stores do not have AC, or the ones that do, the AC is barely noticeable.  Globalization by the MacDonald's are the only restaurants that do have AC.  Of course, the americans cannot live in agony.  Ming would probably have an easier time in Taiwan than in Europe during hot days, coz at least there's AC everywhere in Taipei.  But Taipei is definitely still hotter than Europe.  What else can I say about European cities?  oh yeah, they are freaking expensive.  Anyways, I am going to upload the photos somewhere... Still haven't decided where to put up the photos.  Maybe Flickr?

Wednesday, July 02, 2008

It is July 1st, 2008.  Honestly, where did the last year go?  Ming and i have been married for almost 1 year now.  I still can't believe it.
Ming is finally done with school, but then more school starts in 1 day.... why does he have to make himself so busy all the time?
But anyways, we are going on our honeymoon part II in the end of July.  It's costing us an arm and leg, we probably cannot afford it (in fact, ming will say that we cannot afford it), but when are we going to go if we don't go this year?  I am working more these days to make up the cost of living.  Basically, i am just making money to cover my own shopping expenses.  Aritzia has definitely put a big hole in my wallet.

I've had quite a few busy shifts in the past few weeks.  Some of them were quite rewarding though.  It is great when your work is being appreciated.  It makes a huge difference.  Sometimes rewards cannot just come from patients, families, but encouraging words from your co-workers can also make a big difference.  We have recently hired two charge nurses and they are excellent; i am so happy about that.  Having good charge nurses is getting harder and harder these days.

Went to a wedding this past weekend too.  It was 1 1/2 hr drive from Toronto.  I think once in a while it is fun to go to another city, it's like a road trip.  Too bad that when i took out my camera wanting to take photos during the wedding, i just realized that there was no memory card in it.  :S  So mad.

I hope this is going to be a productive month.  I will be working a lot again in the next two weeks.  And i hope ming and i get our tax done.  :P  It is July after all....

i want my mommy/daddy

so mommy and daddy just left for vancouver. they are going back to taiwan in 4 days.
i was so sad and teary when i dropped them off at the airport. so sad.... even though we get into fights when we are togther, but i still want to be around them.
it is nice to get pampered once in a while by your mommy. while my parents are here, we went to do some grocery shopping a few times. they kept on buying this and that, even though they were only staying here for a few days. my mom was getting all the meat and veges coz she wanted to cook for us. my dad was buying so much fruits, coz he wanted us to eat them. then they paid for everything. they would not let us pay for the groceries. i feel so bad, but i cannot argue with them. they are always so good to their children. i feel like i didn't really take them to a lot of places when they were here, and my mom was always cooking for us when she's at home. i miss them terribly already. can't wait to go back to taiwan....

it was thundering at 1400 today...

My heart is aching right now...
I just found out that a patient from my work has passed away.  I have known this patient ever since I started working at this hospital.  She was such a special girl who made a difference in may people's lives.
Now that she has grown wings and returned to God's arms.  I will always remember her.

六月了。。。 日子過的真快。夏天很害羞要來不來的。有兩天熱的跟舌麼一樣,結果再來的一個月都還是很冷。
work is still busy every time I go. i seldom get a break, not eating anything for the whole shift, or if I do, i eat at like 6pm. :S
i've been doing some searches for the trip that we plan to go in July. everything is still up in the air. coz we are really not in any financial situation to go on a trip, but if we don't go, we will never go. plus, if we go later, then it doesn't count as honeymoon anyways.
i don't know why but i've been thinking about going to the Netherlands. ming wants to go to England, so we can probably go afterwards.
but i have to say, life is better now that my school is done. there is still some stress, but different kinds of stress. let's see if my acne improves now~ haha...

Wednesday, May 21, 2008

Trying to get out of the depressed mode.  So i've been thinking about where to go for honeymoon part II. I don't know why, i've always wanted to go back to Holland. Don't know anything about the country, and i went when i was very young, so i want to see it again.

I've been busy lately.  Worked quite a few days, and went to hot yoga twice with some friends.  I think i go more for the company than going to exercise.  But if it can get me to exercise, and socialize at the same time, then i think it's a good thing.

The long weekend is coming up.  Ming and i don't really have any plans.  So some friends have proposed going to the niagara for wine tasting.  Again, i will go for the company, not because i like wine.  anyways, looking forward to it loh.

Ming went to see the doc today.  He may have carpal tunnel (don't even know how to spell it).  ahy.... we are getting old.

今天好down....

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Sunday, April 27, 2008

we've been, or should i say "i" have been thinking about moving.  why?
well, why not?!
there is probably more "why" than "why not" in moving.
this is how i put it to ming "it's like our current tv.  there's nothing wrong with it, we just like to have one that's nicer.  newer, slimmer, more expensive though.  just like a new house."

Friday, April 25, 2008

who wants to vacation with me?

today we received 2 red bombs... and i thought i have no friends.  :P

i have been looking for job postings lately.  it kinda freaks me out.  just thinking about going for interviews makes my palms sweat.  the truth is, i don't really want to get a new job.  i like my current job, i just don't like the nights and weekends.  and i actually enjoy staying home doing nothing.  don't know what ming would think though?  would a guy think of his wife as lazy if she just sits at home and do nothing?  not even cooking or housework?  i guess he would.... being married suddenly has some kinda "duty" or tasks that a wife needs to fulfill.  if i were single, nobody would care if i work once in a while and don't do any house chores.  ahy.... why the difference? is it just me? even if ming doesn't think this way, i would still feel like i need to do something, coz 人會講話嘛.

i've also been searching for vacation packages, coz i really want to go for a trip to the sunny locations.  when i told mel that i am going with friends, she said "poor ming."  yeah, i also think poor ming, coz he got to work and he always work very hard.  but what should i do? ming said "you can go, but i don't like it"  haha... well first i have to find people to go with!!!

PS. i don't know why my blogger entry has become "single lined" which makes it really hard to read.

Now what?

So today was my official last day of class.  On my way to class, sitting on the GO train, i thought, this may be the last time i take the train!  Kinda sad because i have enjoyed my time taking GO trains and buses.  I don't miss the cold while waiting for them though.  Then after class, as usual i went to the union station to catch my bus back.  But i had to visit my favorite store one last time, coz i may not go there again, since it doesn't open on weekends.  It's a paper, stationary, gift store, and it is very elegant and classy.  Didn't buy anything though, coz god knows i've got too many stationaries and such.  On the bus back to markham, the driver was my favorite one.  I so wanted to give him a thank you card or something.  haha...  So now that school is almost over, i am starting to feel that "what to do next" again.  Kinda scary, and it makes me nervous....

good luck to taiwan in the next 4 years.

Bush Congratulates Ma:
"I congratulate the people of Taiwan on the successful conclusion of their March 22 presidential election. Once again, Taiwan has demonstrated the strength and vitality of its democracy. I also congratulate Mr. Ma Ying-jeou on his victory. Taiwan is a beacon of democracy to Asia and the world. I am confident that the election and the democratic process it represents will advance Taiwan as a prosperous, secure, and well-governed society. It falls to Taiwan and Beijing to build the essential foundations for peace and stability by pursuing dialogue through all available means and refraining from unilateral steps that would alter the cross-Strait situation. I believe the election provides a fresh opportunity for both sides to reach out and engage one another in peacefully resolving their differences. The maintenance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the welfare of the people on Taiwan remain of profound importance to the United States. We will continue to maintain close unofficial ties with the people on Taiwan through the American Institute in Taiwan in accordance with our long standing one China policy, our three Joint Communiqués with the People's Republic of China, and the Taiwan Relations Act."
講的好好聽歐,一定不是他本人寫的.
And I agree with him with the ONE China policy. Yes, China is one, and Taiwan is another one. So there's no conflict there.
臺灣人民快點醒醒吧。Do you really want to be called "China" or "China's little pet" (AKA HK and possibly future Tibet) instead of Taiwan?
If it's all for the economic prosperity, and we bow down to the ruling of China, doesn't that make us 現實的人?
But maybe I cannot say anything about that, because there's probably lots of ppl in taiwan who suffer from poverty and really wish for a better economy or a better life.
我不是在選黨,我是在選一個理念。如國今天馬可以把臺灣經濟搞好,只要不出買臺灣,不管誰當總統我都沒差。Just don't give me the BS that confuses people of taiwan. state what he wants to do. if he says what he truly believes, then he's probably not the winner today. He will sell out, let's just wait and see. And PLEASE, stop all the naked outtings, ok!!!
you can disagree with me if you want, but i think 公投has totally lost its meaning, it has become a political tactic for the two parties. i thought it was totally pointless asking this kinda question when people only know who they want to vote for and not really what they want for taiwan. so might as well stop doing it in the future. taiwan is not ready for this kinda democratic gesture.

apple is propaganda

whatever song that makes it to become an apple commercial song seems to become big later on.
for example, Feist's 1234, and now Yael Naim's new soul.
the apple commercial song that was playing constantly at the fashion mall in LV still rings in my ear from time to time.
and when i said constantly, i mean "constantly." the whole time we were in LV, we probably passed by it dozen of times, coz it's right across from our hotel and we would go there to shop and eat. ahhh... good times. and outside the mall, there was this huge TV or a projection TV that was playing an itune or ipod commercial constantly! it never played anything else but that one commercial. kinda a surreal experience, coz every time i think of that mall, i think of that song.

Hate seeing the dentist, or the endodontist!

Went to get some dental surgery done yesterday.
The whole procedure took less than 30 min.
The fee=$1500.
That makes this endodontist's hourly rate=$3000.

He just went in there and dig... holy ouchy...
When the anaesthetics were injected into my gums, my heart was beating at 200/minute and I thought I was gonna pass out.
My right cheek is swollen like I am holding a piece of egg in there.
But I guess it's understandable since I have 6 freaking stitches in there....!!!
And my pee smells like penicillin coz that's what I'm taking to prevent infections.

I think the year of 29 has started to do its tricks on me...

No money no mini

I "sort of" organized my closet again! and i realized something... I have too much clothes that I don't get to wear often, coz I don't go out often.
Conclusion: I need to go out more!

Went to check out new Mini's today. No money sucks.

those with kids or will have kids will appreciate help like this --

the GO bus driver was so cute today.
a passenger was travelling with a baby. he was by himself and carring a baby's stroller. before he got onto the bus he needed the driver's help to put the stroller in the under-compartment. when he arrived at his destination, he carried the baby down, and the bus driver went down as well to open the compartment and dragged the stroller out. when the dad was trying to work the stroller in order to open it, he was having difficulty doing it since he was carrying his baby in one hand. so the bus driver offered to carry the baby for the dad, which he did, he took the baby from the dad's hand and held the baby like he's very experienced. he must have kids himself too. the dad was very appreciative and smiling. it was such a cute scene. i laughed when i saw them,it was one of those "warm fuzzy" moments in life.

Gang robs Zurich of top paintings

The four stolen masterpieces
An armed gang has stolen four paintings worth some $160m (£82m) by the great painters Cezanne, Degas, Van Gogh and Monet from a museum in Zurich.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7238470.stm

I don't understand art thieves at all, what are they going to do with the paintings? keep them in their basement?
A black market? So what if you have these paintings? You can't show case them anyways...

Are the Suns making a big mistake?

Don't get me wrong, I like Shaq and I hate Marion.
But isn't Shaq a little too old and slow for the young and fast Suns (except Nash who isn't that young either, but he's still fast).
I mean, yeah, the lost to San Antonio without Parker was alarming (coz Parker is like the best), but is it worth panicking like this?
I feel for Marion though, he wanted to be traded, and then he got traded to the worst team in the NBA....
Anyways, go Raptors. What's up with Boston? they keep loosing now...
I predict that the Raptors will play Cleveland in the playoff and they will win the first round but lose in the 2nd round to Detroit.... totally made that up.

Maybe living in Toronto has its good moments

There's usually not that many exciting events in my life that is worth blogging. But today would count as one of those days that something exciting actually happened.
My good friend Lance once asked "have you ever seen a NBA player in person?" At that time I could only answer "yes, i saw junk yard dog." But today......
I saw Chris Bosh!!! In real person, face to face, almost in contact with him!
I was at the hospital, doing some shadowing work for my practicum. While we were in a patient's room doing some teaching with the new staff, Chris Bosh and Joey Graham came to visit the kids on the unit!!! I was the first to see the players and yelled out "OMG" then some of us ran out to see what they were doing. Before they left the unit, the two of them were handing out some autographs, so when CB4 was handing them out, I just snatched one. Not everyone got it though. I kinda ran in front of some nurses in order to get it. I felt embarrassed doing it, but hey, it's CB4's autograph!!! So I had a "almost" in contact experience with him, how cool is that!!! After I finished my shadowing, I went over to another unit, and I saw them again. I am such a teen when it comes to seeing celebrities. Chris was more reserved than Joey, Joey was smiling and more personable. But Chris wasn't too bad either. He was really really tall, very skinny too.
And then (more exciting story here), when I was about to leave the hospital, I saw Sam Mitchell while I was coming down the elevator!!!! He was walking towards the direction that I was going, so I just followed him. I found out that he drinks coffee, Timmy Ho coffee, not Starbucks, coz he walked by it and didn't get it. He drinks his coffee regular. How do I know? Coz i was lining up right behind him!! Hey, I was going to get Tim's myself coz I was starving at that time, seriously. And guess what, he said Hi to me when he turned around and saw me!!! I said "Hi coach" back to him, Haaha..... He was with another man (pretty good looking black man) and for the whole time they were talking about basketball!!! Something like "what's his name? he rebounded pretty good...." Wow.... everything was so surreal. :D
I have to admit that I am such a 追星族.... hahaha.... Ahhh.... what a good day.

Saturday, January 19, 2008

I have been following NBA quite a bit lately.
I feel bad for the Miami Heat, 12 loses... wow... They probably haven't won since November or something....
Anyways, Go Raptors!

乾脆就不用外交了, 省麻煩...
if you watched the amazing race 12 last night, the show travelled to taiwan during last night's episode. pretty interesting. the whole episode took place in taiwan.
it's a good show.

some off day events...

Last Thursday: i was trying to get to class which was at 1pm. got to the subway a little late, but it's usually alright coz class usually doesn't start until 10-15 minutes past 1pm. 坐不到一站, the subway announced to ask everyone to get off the train coz it was no longer in service (it was not running between yorkmill and eglinton station). so everyone got off at yorkmill station. tons of people were waiting at the subway stop for the shuttle going to eglinton station and everyone was trying to squeeze onto each shuttle that came along, it was so hectic, no personnel were helping with the order.... an old lady fainted, fell onto the floor, i couldn't really see the lady until much later (after more ppl left) and i noticed a classmate of mine was trying to help the lady. she was trying to get to class too! i waited for 1hr to get onto the shuttle... by the time i got to class, the class was almost ended, so mad, coz it was the most important class of the whole term... XD I talked to a girl in the class who takes the same route as me to go to class, she told me that someone jumped in front of the train, suicide jump, and she was in the first train and saw the whole thing. the train was not able to stop in time, even though they shut down the entire power supply, the guy was underneath. ahy... my friend was devastated.
After class, got onto the subway, no problem there, but when i got to the station, there was tons of cops, some areas were sealed off with police tapes. apparently some guy was almost beaten to death there, and it was all over the news that night.
Tonight: went to dairy queen to get some sweets, but some disgusting sightings happened... ming ordered a chilled cappoccino, kinda like a milk shake. the obasan making the drink used her bare hand to sweep off the excess ice cream in the cup three times!!! and we knew she didn't wash her hands after handling money. no matter, using bare hands to wipe off ice cream is just so gross. i told ming that i wouldn't eat it and if i were him i would tell the obasan that i am not drinking this (in a nice way). but being ming, he just took it and walked away. on the drive home, i was eating my strawberry cheesecake blizzard, i noticed something that tasted funny, kinda moldy, so i turned on the car lights, and noticed some black dots: yuck!!! ming turned the car around, i got back into DQ and tell them that there was mold in my ice cream! in a nice way, coz there were customers there... the cashier did not apologize, was going to make me another cup, i said no way, give me my money back! so she did. After we got home, ming threw his drink in the sink... :S

first day back to T.O

slept the whole night and the next day (woke up at almost 4pm).
still feeling a little sick and start to feel the stress of school.
i really enjoy my time in seattle and miss my family and friends there very much.
chloe has become such a big girl now. she is both naughty and more mature.
i think she knows more about cooking than uncle ming ~.^ hehee...
she is very attentive to her little sister anabelle, she is going to be a good big sister. even though i can't imagine her being a sibling, coz she's got all the attention in the world on her. it must feel weird as a parent, to have a child who used to be everything to you, then suddenly there's another one. how do you spare the love? anabelle is a lovely baby, she smiles very often and sometimes giggles!!! i don't think i've seen a baby giggle before!!! but she has some gas issue so she's kept her parents up all night for the past few days, poor mel, rudy, and chloe. one night the whole family was up at 5am, including my parents, lotus and robert. but i was sleeping soundly on the other side of the house. ming was the one who told me coz he fell asleep watching tv on the couch that night.
it is 2008 now. looking back to 2007, don't feel like i've accomplished anything (besides getting married, can that count as an accomplishment?) wasted another year. but honestly, which year in the past was not wasted? i think we need to do another road trip in order to feel like i've done something. ;)

why do Canadians milk more money from their own people

So i am officially pissed....
went to visit Aritzia in Seattle. their prices are lower than Canadian prices!!! how can a canadian store do this to their own people? the same goes to Lululemon, their prices are also lower here in the states! holy, i am so pissed...

crazy night.

work x'mas party

ever since the school term has ended, there has been lots of partying. to be honest, i have done lots of partying even during this past term, i guess having one course was really not that bad. next term will be crazier though...
so i went to work's x'mas party, had a lot of fun that night. can't recall the last time that i went drinking and dancing; probably never!! should do it more often while we are still young. And guess what, nurses can really drink and party!

Wednesday, December 05, 2007

started reorganizing my closet. orginally i was going to swapt closet with ming coz my closet is at the side that is right off an exterior wall, so when it comes to winter time, my clothes are always freezing cold and that makes morning dressing very unpleasant. ming's closet is not as functional, coz it doesn't have any shelves! so he was willing to swapt with me even though mine's a "colder" closet. anyhow, so i did a little reorganizing, so kinda lazy to swap with ming now. i really need to just throw away clothes, instead of just organizing them into "often wear," "not so often wear," or "will never ever wear again." >_< but some of the old clothes are still in good quality and are nice brands too... ahy, fashion is a money sucking business. things that i bought last year are already not as good looking as this year's. no wonder women feel like they are always short of one piece of clothing item in their closet. so after i cleared out the "never ever clothes" i created a little spot for all the "in-coming" clothes in the future. when that spot is cleared, that means it's time to go shopping. ^.~ ming is sweating now... Wahahaha....

Tuesday, December 04, 2007

So school has come to an end for this term. There are so many things on my mind that I want to do before I begin to get busy for work again and leave for home. For example, re-organizing my closet, clean up the house, shop for lighting, organize the bedrooms, and many more. But who knows if i will really get to do them.
Winter is here. Snow has come down really heavy in toronto. This year snow has come so early. I am so not ready for it, missing the weather back home. I want 意麵王and之多家!!! Where to find these restaurants in Toronto?!!!

Memories~

Just cleared out two full bags full of flyers, advertisements, and information i got during two of the wedding shows that i went to. One was here in Markham, and the other one in Kingston. Wow, that was a long time ago. We probably went to Kingston more than 4 times to prep for the wedding. Going through those flyers gave me the flash backs... Where ming and i were trying to figure everything out for the wedding, every single detail. Then I thought: it was fun, had a blast on that day, but never want to go through that again. Don't know how wedding planners do it. Although i think event planning is a fun job, maybe until something goes wrong and the client yell at me. :P

the confused Bachelor

So i guess none of you guys watch the show "the Bachelor"? I only started watching it this season and only the last 5 episodes. This was the most shocking season in "the Bachelor" history as the bachelor rejected both women at the end. How dramatic was that?! I think the guy had feelings for both women and felt wrong to choose either one of them if he was confused between the two.
I asked ming "what would you do, ming?" And being ming, he always gives the most politically correct answer "i would not sign up to do the show in the first place." Booo... boring. Hahaha....

Sunday night dinner

ming's newly discovered toy, a panini machine. he's used it twice already. hopefully he will keep using it and not just put it away forever.it's a sandwitch, not a steak.

Worked today and i was floated to another unit, the medicine/infectious disease unit. there was this IV nurse who came and needed to start an IV on a kid. the nurse was pregnant, and the kid had chicken pox. the nurse said "well, i had chicken pox when i was really young and i am in the 2nd trimester now, so i should be okay." i seriously don't know what would I do in that situation. i know that as long as you've had chicken pox, then you'll be okay. but it's not just chicken pox that they see, they see diff stuff everyday... ahy... nursing is a hard job...

a must watch

Just watched the movie Sicko last night. Watched all the special features on it afterwards too. I have to say that i feel fortunate being a Canadian. And good for the Brits and the French. Even Taiwanese are catching up.
The movie was on during the Toronto Film Festival, and all the health care workers were allowed in to see the movie for free. I missed that chance and have been dying to see it ever since. Gotta say that the movie had its limitations on some details, but it got its message across, that's the most important thing. As a health care worker, i can't help but to sympathize the ones who have to work in the field in the US. Again, i am lucky to be living in Canada. Save medicare!!!

"thank you" builds self-esteem

I am working on my seminar presentation these days. My topic is self-esteem in adolescents. I don't think the notion of self-esteem is that well established in the Taiwanese culture. You can disagree with me, but from what i remembered, students in taiwan were taught to be humble and not to show any signs of ego. Even when someone compliments you, you are supposed to say things like "no, you think too highly of me." I believe that puts negative effect on an adolescent's self-esteem. Research has shown that self-esteem is crucial to an adolescent's healthy development. However, how do you develop positive self-esteem when you are constantly telling yourself that "no, i am not that great?" Is the culture of "humble-ness" killing our adolescents' self-esteem? Maybe it is different over there now? because i see lots of kids acting very ego-centric, as if the world is all about them.
I still remember when i was 13 and just moved to Vancouver, during a one on one session with an ESL teacher, she complimented on my spelling ability. Naturally i responded by "no... i am not that good," then she said to me "Jackie, you have to learn to just say 'thank you' when someone says something good about you. Remember that. now, let's try this again..." then she said "Jackie, your spelling is very good" and i said "thank you." I will never forget the lesson that i learned that day... Even till today, when a colleague or friend thanks me for helping her out, i would always say "oh, no, it's nothing," no matter how much trouble it cost me. i need to just say "you're welcome" in the future. I believe this will enhance my self-esteem. So if you ever come across a child who does this, do her/him a favor by telling her/him to just say "thank you."

First snow

yes, it snowed in Markham this morning.

Beautiful~

Tuesday, November 06, 2007

Got my new driver's licence yesterday. I was truly happy with my photo on it. For the past few years, i have been living with a driver's licence with an ugly photo of me. So i am very happy that this one turned out nice and i will no longer feel embarrassed to use it the next time. However, my health card has a even more ugly photo of me, it looks like a mug shot, someone who is drunk and was driving coz my eyes were full of hatred... I was wearing a huge winter coat and a scarf!!! Who the hell would let anyone take a photo id wearing a scarf?! I use my health card more than any other id's.... But... My health card does not expire until 2010 or something, darn....

when my professor told me that my use of "syntax" is problematic, it just killed my confidence in writing. first i had to look up the word "syntax" to find out what it means, afterwards i realized she was basically saying that i don't know how to write in english. arrr.... my 16 years of education down the drain. :S

Tuesday, October 30, 2007

today on my way to class, a guy was walking beside me, and i had this thought "i really don't like= despise guys who walk slower than me!" and it wasn't like the guy was taking a stroll, he was walking at the same rythm as me, just that he was either short or he took small steps. yuck....

this is what happened in my dream last night:
i went to see a doctor at this clinic for the first time. i don't even recall what did i went to see her for. and guess what she told me.... "you are suffering from bulimia." i yelled "bulimia?!" and then she responded "yes, bulimia of your soul."
Hahahaha.... when i woke up, i was like "huh? what? what the hell was that all about!!!" bulimia of the soul, how creative....

Wednesday, October 17, 2007

I used to have classes every Tuesday morning and afternoon, so i would take the GO to go to school. For those who don't live in Toronto, GO is a train/bus transit system that serves the outer Toronto areas, such as Markham, which is where we live. It takes about 50 minutes from my stop to get to the Main station downtown, then i would transfer to the subway system to get to my class.
So every Tuesday when i am waiting for the train to arrive, standing on the track, i would see this man pushing a woman in a wheelchair to get onto the train. Then the guy would take off. I assume that this is how the women commute to work everyday and not just Tuesdays (coz i've seen them on other days as well on the odd occasions when i do go downtown other than tuesdays).
But because this semester i only have one class on Tuesday afternoons, i don't get to take the train in the mornings, instead, they run buses in the afternoon, which is what i take now. So i don't see the couple anymore.
The other day when i was shopping at our local Costco, i saw this guy who looked very familiar, shopping in the grocer section just like me. I had to think very hard and it wasn't until i was done shopping was i able to remember that it was the man who pushes his partner to the GO everyday. I was so amazed by what this man does, he has to do grocery shopping too! Does he do all the house chores at home, including cooking?! No matter he was a man or woman, being there for their partner during tough times is the most valuable gift that someone could ever give. All i could think of when i remembered the guy, was how happy they were everyday when he was pushing the woman, helping her onto the train. They were always laughing. That is a great lesson that many of us have to learn. Thriving under extreme hardship.... That is when true love shows its potential.

我愛泡菜~

so we finally went to eat Korean kimchi tofu hotpot today. it was great. i'm totally addicted to it now. ming went with me despite his sickness/cold/?fever/lethargy. and for the first time in history, he ordered his dish "mild" while i ordered it "medium" spicy!!! i am building up my spicy tolerance real good these days. i love kimchi! there must be something happening to my body lately that i've been craving for kimchi so much. my body goes through some food craving phases sometimes. i still remember there was once that i was craving for ceasar salad and i had it for like 7 days straight or something. i either bought it from Kelsie's take out, or ate it at the hospital's cafeteria, or bought some to make it at home. that was one weird food craving episode. now that i am craving for kimchi and on our way home from the restaurant, there happened to be a little korean grocery store right beside it (how convenient), we bought a container of kimchi, i'll be eating it so much from now on. let's see how long this kimchi phase lasts.
